Traffic Congestion and Infrastructure
Our city's growth has brought with it increased traffic congestion, particularly along key corridors like North Rhett Avenue, Yeamans Hall Road, Murray Drive and Tanner Ford Boulevard. I propose a comprehensive traffic management plan that includes improved traffic signal coordination, expanded roadways where feasible, and enhanced pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure to reduce vehicle dependency. I know this will have to be a inter-agency effort with city, county and state involvement as the problems don’t end at our city limits.
Public Safety
The safety of our residents is a top priority. As our city expands, so too must our public safety resources. I will advocate for increased funding for our police and fire departments, focusing on community policing and rapid response capabilities.
Smart Growth and Development
While growth is essential for economic vitality, it must be managed wisely to maintain our quality of life. I am committed to smart growth principles that prioritize sustainable development, green spaces, and preserving the character of our neighborhoods. I will work to update zoning regulations to reflect the needs of our growing population while protecting our charm.
Supporting Local Businesses
Our small businesses are the backbone of Hanahan’s economy. I will champion initiatives that provide more resources and support for local entrepreneurs, including streamlined permitting processes, grants, and marketing assistance. A thriving business community means more jobs and a stronger local economy.
Parks and Recreation
Our parks and recreational facilities are vital to our community's well-being. I will work to ensure they are well-maintained and expanded where necessary. I support the development of additional recreational programs for all ages, promoting healthy lifestyles and community engagement.
About me
William Axson is a devoted husband and father. He and his wife have an 8-year-old son, who attends Hanahan Elementary School. William has called Hanahan home since 1993, watching the community grow and evolve over the past three decades. A graduate of The Citadel in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, he was instilled with the values of integrity, service, and leadership—qualities he has carried with him throughout his personal and professional life.
William’s career began in the insurance industry, where he worked as a national catastrophe claims adjuster, helping communities recover from unexpected disasters. His experience on the frontlines of crisis management has given him a deep understanding of preparedness and the importance of efficient, responsive service. He took a leap of faith and founded TAP Insurance Agency, a business that focuses on providing commercial and personal insurance solutions. His entrepreneurial experience equips him with firsthand knowledge of the challenges small businesses face, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring Hanahan’s local economy remains strong and resilient.
As an engaged citizen, William is a passionate advocate for youth development and education. He actively volunteers with the Hanahan Elementary PTO, has coached youth sports through the Hanahan Recreation Department, and serves his local church. William’s commitment to community service extends beyond volunteering—he currently sits on the Board of Directors for several non-profits in the area and has served as chair of multiple committees, contributing strategic leadership to organizations focused on education, community enrichment, and public service.
Politically, William takes a balanced approach to governance, believing in responsible fiscal management, limited but effective government, and empowering individuals and families. He is committed to policies that keep Hanahan safe, maintain essential services without increasing unnecessary taxes, and ensure the city’s infrastructure keeps pace with growth. As someone who has built a life, a family, and a business in Hanahan, William understands that strong communities are built through partnerships between residents, businesses, and local government.
With deep roots in Hanahan and a vision for a prosperous, vibrant future, William Axson is committed to serving his neighbors and working toward practical solutions that make a lasting impact.
